The Severed Path

bcb723 Cool, experimental two man death metal project from the great Spirit Coffin records. Touches of Voivod and Krallice in the angular songs and mesmerizing, melodic riffs with growled & screamed vox - I'm a huge fan of this. It also goes without saying but mad respect for Dono who not only lays shit down on guitars and vocals but absolutely crushes it with the "I'd buy this shit on vinyl to stare at that cover for a while" artwork. More to come, I'm sure. But "The Severed Path" is a quality start. Favorite track: Unfathomable Depths.

1.
Enslaved 03:30
There is nothing closer to hell than the endless violence of life A fabrication of filth and flesh We’ve been enslaved by our own hands Now we decay and grow complacent with age Our fate is now at the mercy of wolves We descend nethermore to unexplored crevices in the dark Downhill bliss toward an empty door Your blood runs cold
2.
Shooting the gap by the edge of a blade only to be left with a plan that went awry Forever unwanted, forever unspecified I have not a chance nor a reason to know why I am fading from the image, dwindling from memory Failing to recollect what they recall as a friend I am sick
3.
Black Tide 03:50
What exists beyond the light of the sun Outside the boundaries of this mortal realm As you realize the beauty in death you surrender to your misery Black tide, overnight we fade in the silence We all remain unknowing of choice but you take it upon yourself to die alone, die before your time Is there anything more than the aches of this joyless existence You struggle to breathe but continue staggering forward “You poor creature, once you’ve been given this form there is no way of separating you again. At least your passing will be in peace.”
4.
Ride or Die 02:52
Release me from this turbulent nightmare, unbind my spirit from flesh What worth is a life of desire when there’s no hope in the future Our planet is melting under the rays of the scorching sun Plummeting through the lawless void of endless space We fight against the pull of the orbit, the unyielding will of gravity Overcome by uncertainty, sick with the fear of the future As a caged bird longs for the skies my soul longs for departure
5.
Labyrinth 01:53
6.
Corridor 02:03
Retreating to the refuge of a lightless trench I close my eyes to any memory of the sun Don’t look my way, in my eyes you will see the frenzied anguish of a rabid beast Die by age, die by misfortune, die laughing in manic despair Die all, one in the same The bridge has been crossed Nothing exists beyond the light My body decays before the corridor Mind departing from earthly dominion
7.
What has become of the path ahead All I see is the end What will be of our home as we know it when it has become the ocean floor Bound to the weight of the world, drowning like fucking rats Eternally infected by the erosion of time, festering like a filthy wound
8.
Portal 01:48
9.
The pain of a past life transgresses into your own You’re lost in a trance of blinding emotion Awakened from receding delusions, a storm is churning beyond the horizon Defeated, musing, resigning to fate Downhill bliss toward an empty door Your blood runs cold We walk forth but do not progress We only resound what history echoes Life is nothing but a twisted path Ages of tedious fabrication Watch it crumble and erode to dust Today we ride beyond the fringes of time We proceed to unfathomable depths, infernal wastes of dregs and debris

about

"A progressive and melodic death metal slipstream achieved between worlds, 'The Severed Path' is the deranged and climactic journey resultant of United States and Australia based musicians Dono (Ashes For the Mute) and Bage (Reshitivist, ex-Caged Grave, etc) respectively who've crafted their debut full-length to the tune of suffering and suicide at the end of the days. Though the duo each speak the universal language of death metal their individual perspectives represent a striking duality at every twist and turn -- Abrasive yet melodic, technical yet raw, a bittersweet quality persists throughout the experience as they pull their fateful thread of riffs upon ruination. Let the visceral, ornate cover art guide the senses first, hand-painted by Dono as an interpretation of imperceptible forces in nature, extra-dimensional reality, and personal spiritual energy. The colorful fluidity of the artwork intentionally reflects the process of realizing 'The Severed Path', the whole package showcasing the artists strong vision of beauteous, jagged motion and fine detail."
